The core mission of the ACISS HPC cluster is to provide subsidized computing resources to the University of Oregon research community. The ACISS machine and its associate Cloud services module offer a substantial performance enhancement over that which individual users can achieve. In addition, ACISS users have access to expert consulting in code parallelization, code porting, virtual machine configurations, and high-end visualization services.

The costs of external services are not competitive for OUS institutions working with large data sets, as both data transfer costs and storage far exceed the price of performing local computation. Furthermore, the money that leaves the University of Oregon can no longer be used to improve our equipment.
